Set an iPhone ringtone without downloading another app
You can select built-in or already installed tones in Settings without another app. For your own file, use the system’s Use as Ringtone action when it is available; otherwise an export method is still needed.

If the tone is already installed
Go to Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone and choose its name. This changes your call sound without Ringy, GarageBand, iTunes or a computer. The same idea applies to choosing an existing text tone: use the Text Tone category instead.
If you have an audio file
A file in Files is not automatically an installed ringtone. Open its share sheet and look for Use as Ringtone. When your system and file support that action, it is the direct route. Complete the action, then check the ringtone list in Settings. You do not need to install Ringy just to select a sound that the system can already import.
If the action is missing, first make sure the file is downloaded locally, playable and short. A link, a video, a streaming-service download or a protected song is not the same as an ordinary audio file. Changing the filename extension does not convert its contents.
When “without apps” is not the answer
Older iOS versions or unsupported files may need a separate export workflow. Apple documents GarageBand for creating a ringtone on the phone, so that route avoids a computer and iTunes but does require GarageBand. We do not call that a no-app method. Check whether the App Store offers a GarageBand version compatible with your device before relying on it.
If you do not want to install anything and the direct action is unavailable, choose an existing system tone or a compatible purchased tone. For a file that needs editing, save the original and decide which editing method you want to use.
Where Ringy fits
Ringy is optional when you already have a ready-to-use sound. It is useful when you want to find a remix or trim a personal clip before the final system setup. You can browse the silent catalogue first and decide whether to use the app.

Built-in tone selection is documented by Apple. The conditional system action follows Ringy’s current export guidance and its checked-in system-action illustration; availability from Files on each current iOS release needs a physical-device check. No universal minimum-version guarantee is made.
