Ringtones, text tones and alarms: which setting changes what?
A call ringtone, message alert and alarm are separate settings. Changing one does not automatically change the others, even if you want to use the same sound.
Match the sound to the event
| What you want to hear | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Ordinary incoming phone calls | The phone’s ringtone settings |
| Calls from one person | That person’s contact card |
| Texts or app alerts | Text-tone settings or the app’s notification categories |
| A timed wake-up alarm | The individual alarm in Clock |
Export is only one step
Saving a tone makes a file or library item available. Installing it makes it eligible for a system picker. Selecting it assigns it to an event. These can be three separate actions. If the new sound plays in the editor but not when your phone rings, check the assignment before making another export.
Not every sound fits every use
A call can tolerate a longer musical phrase. Repeated text alerts can become distracting with that same phrase. An alarm needs to be recognizable and audible in the conditions where you will use it. Test your own sound at the intended volume instead of choosing by a filename such as “loud.”
App-specific limits
Messaging and calling apps can provide their own controls. Some expose the system sound picker; others use a fixed list or no custom-sound choice. Ringy cannot create a setting inside another app that the app does not support.
When troubleshooting, write down the exact event: normal call, call from a particular contact, SMS, an app notification or a Clock alarm. That single detail usually identifies the right next guide.
